The problem: building a digital asset allocation in size

A Sydney-based family office with an approved allocation to BTC and ETH was building the position through retail exchange accounts. Illustrative case, not a named client.

  1. Market impact on large orders – order books were thin at size, so a single market order moved the price against the office.
  2. Manual execution – orders were split by hand across venues and over several days, with no consistent benchmark.
  3. Assets held on venue – holdings sat on exchanges rather than with the office's custodian.
  4. Fragmented records – fills, fees and transfers were spread across platforms, which made reporting to the investment committee and auditor slow.

The solution: principal pricing for blocks, algorithms for the rest

Neo-X quotes as principal through a request-for-quote, and works larger orders over time where the client prefers a benchmark to a single price.

  • Block RFQ – a two-way price as principal in approximately 60 digital assets, on tickets from approximately $100k to $20m. The rate is agreed before settlement.
  • Algorithmic orders – TWAP and VWAP to work a larger allocation over a set period, plus conditional orders such as limits.
  • Liquidity – priced against approximately 25 venues and Neo-X's own inventory.
  • Settlement and custody – AUD in real time over the New Payments Platform (NPP), stablecoins on-chain. Assets are delivered to the client's custodian or wallet, or held with Neo-X, where customer funds under custody are held with Copper.
  • Access – chat, web UI or API, with a named dealer; desk 8am–10pm AEST and 24-hour support.
  • Hedging – forwards, options and structured hedges through the derivatives desk, where an office wants to manage price risk on the position.

Result

Illustrative outcome, not a quote or performance figure.

  • The allocation was built through one principal counterparty, with block trades priced before settlement.
  • Larger orders were worked by TWAP over a set window, with the average price reported against the order.
  • Assets were delivered to the office's nominated custodian.
  • One confirmation and report per trade for the investment committee and auditor.
